Topic: EBTS-Programme – Trauma stabilisation in refugee, asylum seeking and immigrant families

The world wide situation is challenging, and as professionals we must find new ways of supporting integration of traumatized refugees in the society. Almost all refugees experienced trauma in their original country or on their way to destination country. EBTS Evidence Based Trauma Stabilisation Programme enhanced reslience of traumaticed refugees, and widen competencies of professionals. The latest findings in therapy and trauma research were integrated into a resilience and attachment-oriented game between mother and child, with the aim of reducing the risk of post-traumatic stress disorder in those affected.

The goal of EBTS is to stabilize and support the attachment in parent-child pairs and to increase the mind-mindedness in parents. It is Child psychodrama based on fulfilling the basic needs of both parents and children and building skills how to improve their relationship.

Psychoeducation and playing are used as methods, which are based on sociometry and psychodrama. EBTS is not a new form of therapy, but a short-term Childpsychodrama intervention programme to be implemented by refugee aid workers in refugee camps as quickly as possible

EBTS-Programme:

  • It is a short-term program
  • Does not aim at psychotherapy but at stabilisation first aid
  • One parent-child-pair from each participating family, and 5-7 pairs in one group
  • Resilience skills are strengthened, and parents can use the learned skills in everyday life
  • Professionals (not only psychotherapists) working with these families can be trained to be EBTS-Leaders
  • Training of the parents and children can take place even in a refugee camp
  • Can be applied in large groups

In this pre-conference seminar, we will present the project with the accompanying research on the implementation of EBTS. Psychoeducation on the topic of trauma is imparted and playful stabilisation techniques are learned.

Topic: The Wooing of the Little Lion – Child Psychodrama in a High-Conflict Context

Separation and divorce are among the most critical life events for children and adolescents, stressing them so much that they need all the resources at their disposal. Most of the time, however, parents are themselves so stressed in this situation that they cannot react appropriately to their children; and their needs no longer match those of their children.

The content of the seminar is how, in this conflict-ridden situation, the needs and reactions of the children and adolescents can be addressed in a playful way using the method of child psychodrama in the sense of PARTS work. Through animal figures, the intense feelings triggered by the separation of the parents, the grief and fear, the anger and revenge, the loss and hurt, and the longing and despair can be externalized and visualized. Through this, solutions can be worked out with the child and the parents.
Through this emotional level, parents are also more likely to be touched by their children’s justified concerns, understand the strong feelings and are more able to accept them. They are also more willing to work on a better contact solution.
After this approach is demonstrated, you will be shown how to address various problems and difficulties in the separation, divorce situation, e.g.:

  • Conflicts that may arise during visits to the separated parent
  • Problems with new families and blended families
